Our History
The private school of the New Covenant began in Aix-en-Provence in 1984 with kindergarten and elementary school. It was founded by four families who wanted to educate their children according to a Christian worldview, as French secular schools did not really allow this approach.
These families then multiplied and the school moved to its current premises in 1995, to accommodate up to sixty children. It was also in the early 90s that the middle school was opened.
What began as a small grain of faith has become a vibrant educational community, rooted in the truth of God and sustained by the grace of God and the commitment of the families, the teachers, and other faithful supporters who are convinced of the importance of Christian education.

Historical Foundations
Protestant schools were born under the impetus of the Reformers, who had developed a grand vision around childhood and formation. The watchword during the Reformation was "one church, one school," and pastors often fulfilled the role of teacher. Their particular goal was to provide access to Bible reading for all, consistent with the vision of developing a personal and responsible faith. Teaching and training children was seen as key to the progression and sustainability of the Reformation message.
In the 16th century, more than 2,000 Huguenot primary and middle schools could be found throughout France, and there were around twenty Protestant academies (university level).
The timeline below (in French) illustrates the progression of Christian education from the time of the Reformers to present day.
